Fallen NYPD Hero Was Days Away From Welcoming His Third Child
Officer Didarul Islam, 36, was fatally shot while working a second job as a security guard in Midtown Manhattan. A devoted father and husband, he was helping support his growing family — with a third child due in just weeks.
Islam, known for his quiet strength and deep faith, joined the NYPD in 2021. “He died protecting others,” said Commissioner Jessica Tisch. Mayor Adams called him “a true hero.”
The gunman, 27-year-old Shane Tamura, killed four others before taking his own life. Investigators are still searching for answers.
Back in the Bronx, Islam’s community grieves. “He lived to serve — and he did, until the very end,” said a friend.
