Newborn Baby Needed 13 Stitches After Emergency C-Section Injury
What should’ve been the happiest day of Reazjhana Williams’ life turned into a nightmare. The Denver mom had planned a natural birth in June 2021—but when doctors couldn’t find her baby’s heartbeat, she was rushed into an emergency C-section.
Within minutes, her daughter Kyanni was born. But instead of holding her newborn, Reazjhana watched as doctors rushed the baby to a plastic surgeon.
Kyanni had suffered a deep, wide cut across her cheek that required 13 stitches. The family was heartbroken.
“I tried to be understanding,” Reazjhana said, “but seeing my baby’s face like that—it was just too much.”
Doctors later explained that Kyanni’s head was unusually close to the placenta wall during the procedure, a rare but known risk in emergency deliveries. Even so, the extent of the injury left both the family and medical staff shaken.
Kyanni’s father, Damarqus, said their baby was clearly in pain and uncomfortable.
Denver Health acknowledged the incident, calling it a known complication, and reaffirmed their focus on patient safety. A GoFundMe set up to help the family with medical expenses has raised over $11,000.
Now recovering, baby Kyanni’s story is a powerful reminder of how unpredictable childbirth can be—and how one moment can change everything for a family.
