Hollywood icon Keanu Reeves made his professional auto racing debut Saturday at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway — but his first outing didn’t go quite as planned.
Competing in the Toyota GR Cup, a support series for the Indy 8 Hour event, the 60-year-old actor spun off the track during Turn 9 with 21 minutes remaining in the 45-minute race. Thankfully, it was a solo incident with no collision, and Reeves walked away unharmed.
Despite qualifying 31st out of 35 cars, Reeves climbed as high as 21st and avoided a major first-lap crash before ultimately finishing 25th. He was driving the No. 92 BRZRKR car — named after his own graphic novel, The Book of Elsewhere — and racing alongside Cody Jones from “Dude Perfect.”
This isn’t Reeves’ first time behind the wheel; he previously won the celebrity race at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in 2009. He’s set to compete again on Sunday in a second race.
