Once considered a rising star in Brazil’s bodybuilding scene, Arlindo de Souza gained national attention for his shockingly massive biceps — measuring nearly 75 centimeters in circumference. Proudly calling himself “the most handsome man in Brazil,” he enjoyed the spotlight. But behind the fame lies a haunting story of obsession, risk, and irreversible damage.
Arlindo’s transformation didn’t come from disciplined training or healthy nutrition. In his pursuit of extreme size, he began injecting a homemade cocktail of oil and alcohol directly into his muscles — a dangerous and unregulated practice.
The consequences were devastating: risks of infection, permanent disfigurement, and even death. That risk hit home when Arlindo’s close friend Paulinho died from the same injections. “We injected the same stuff. I lived, he didn’t,” Arlindo reflected. “It was a terrible experience, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.”
Though he has vowed never to inject again, the physical changes remain — as does the attention. According to his brother, women still stare wherever Arlindo goes. But the admiration feels hollow.
Today, Arlindo admits the price was too high. His story serves as a cautionary tale about chasing validation through extremes. What began as a desire for muscle turned into a battle with body image and identity.
He may have once dreamed of the perfect physique, but now, Arlindo says simply: “I’m just glad to be alive.”
