At 32, Juan Pedro Franco weighed a staggering 595 kg — the heaviest living person in the world, according to Guinness World Records. Bedridden for seven years and battling multiple health issues, he was losing hope. But he chose to fight back.
His weight had spiraled out of control since childhood, worsened by an accident in his teens. By adulthood, he suffered from diabetes, hypertension, thyroid problems, and fluid in his lungs.
Determined to change, he followed a strict diet, started light exercise, and lost 170 kg — all before undergoing gastric surgery. With the help of doctors and two operations, he shed a total of 330 kg by 2020.
That year, he also faced deep personal loss — the death of both parents and his own battle with COVID-19 — but he didn’t give up.
Today, Juan Pedro walks independently, wears regular clothes, and shares his story to inspire others. His next goal? Removing 80 kg of excess skin and reaching 200 kg.
“Now I dream of being the man who lost the most weight,” he says — and he’s well on his way.
