Brutus, a gentle bullmastiff from Northern California, is known for his playful spirit—but there’s one toy he treats with extra care: his beloved yellow “fluffy.” Unlike the many he’s destroyed in minutes, this one stays close to his heart.
Adopted in 2016 by Bonnie Michalek and her husband, Brutus quickly became part of the family. When Bonnie got pregnant, Brutus seemed to sense it before she did. He stuck by her side protectively, refusing to sleep in his crate during her husband’s night shifts.
When baby Kayden was born, Brutus instantly bonded with him. The moment they returned from the hospital, he skipped the adults and went straight to Kayden, showering him with kisses.
Since then, Brutus has never strayed far from the baby. Whenever Kayden cries, Brutus gently offers him the “fluffy”—his most treasured toy—in a sweet attempt to soothe him.
Bonnie says the family is looking forward to their annual camping trips, now with Kayden in tow. And Brutus, once the center of attention, is happily learning the joy of sharing—especially when it comes to his favorite toy.
