Tragedy struck in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, when a 29-year-old man visiting from Colorado was killed by lightning while on his honeymoon. The incident occurred last Friday during severe weather. Though first responders performed CPR and rushed him to the hospital, he passed away the next day.
Photos from the beach showed bystanders and rescue teams working quickly to help. His identity has not yet been made public.
The same day, two golfers were also struck indirectly by lightning at a nearby golf course but were unharmed.
Officials are reminding the public of the life-saving rule: “When thunder roars, go indoors.” Lightning can strike even if the sky appears clear.
