A powerful 8.2 magnitude earthquake hit the Alaskan Peninsula late Wednesday, shaking the region and triggering tsunami warnings across the Pacific.

The quake struck 91 km southeast of Perryville at a depth of 35 km. While no immediate injuries or damage were reported, tsunami sirens were activated in areas like Kodiak, and emergency systems quickly mobilized.

The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center issued alerts for parts of southern Alaska, stretching from Hinchinbrook Entrance to Unimak Pass. Hawaii and Guam were initially under watch but were later cleared of any danger.

Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy confirmed the state’s emergency operations center was activated. The USGS also reported at least eight aftershocks, two stronger than magnitude 6.0, as global agencies—including in Japan and New Zealand—monitored for further risks.
