The Tattooed Dad Who Proves Looks Don’t Tell the Whole Story
Judging someone by how they look is easy. But sometimes, looks couldn’t be more misleading.
Take Richard Huff, for example.
At first glance, you might notice the tattoos. And not just a few here and there. Richard, 51, is covered—literally. Over 240 tattoos, including the most visible ones on his face. Enough to make strangers do a double take.
Some people even assume he’s a terrible dad just because of how he looks.
But then his wife tells the real story—and it turns everything upside down.

Tattoos as a Language
For Richard, tattoos aren’t rebellion—they’re expression. “It became an addiction,” he admits, “I started with my legs and worked my way up.” Today, roughly 85% of his body is inked. And these aren’t just random designs. Some are deeply personal—like the lips of his daughter and their names.
“I want to be 100% covered in tattoos within the next four years,” Richard says. “I don’t know if it’s the pain or the artwork, but it becomes fascinating when you can do this.”
A Family Like Any Other
Despite the judgment, Richard is raising five kids with his wife, Marita. And according to her, he’s “a big-hearted person” with a devotion that defies stereotypes.

She admits something surprising: at first, she was scared of him too. “I did judge Richard based on his looks at first, but as I got to know him, he’s actually amazing.”
Their children—even those from previous marriages—see him differently. His daughter explains, “They say, ‘Ah, it’s a bit scary,’ and I say, ‘No, my dad is not scary. He is good with tattoos.’”
Community Dad, Not Just Tattooed
Richard isn’t hiding from everyday life. He’s involved in the PTA, attends every school function, and actively participates in his kids’ lives.
Yet strangers online still criticize him. One comment read, “I’m not against tattoos, but does he really need them on his face?”
But Richard’s response? Pure perspective. “If somebody can make negative comments like that, there’s something wrong with them themselves,” he says. “This is what we did, and we’re happy. We’ve been together six years, our kids are happy, and that’s all that matters.”
The Heart Behind the Ink
Richard’s story is a reminder that appearances can be deceiving. Tattoos don’t define kindness, parenting, or love. “Having tattoos does not scare my children, it doesn’t make me a bad father,” he says. “It gives my kids a different perspective on life.”
And if you saw Richard without the tattoos? You might not recognize him at all. But his family does. They see the devoted father, the loving husband, the man whose heart is bigger than any assumption.
The Takeaway
Richard Huff is living proof that you really can’t judge a book by its cover. Tattoos might catch your eye—but they don’t tell the story. And his story? It’s all about family, love, and breaking stereotypes one inked line at a time.
