While driving on a busy highway, Debbie Allen noticed traffic slowing down for no obvious reason. Then she saw it — a scared German shepherd had wandered into the road. Tragically, one car struck the dog and kept going.
Without hesitation, Debbie pulled over to help. “The dog was limping—I knew it had been hit,” she told WXYZ. Though she was on her way to meet a client, Debbie chose to stay. As she approached, the frightened dog ran, but she didn’t give up. She followed it and calmly guided it to safety.
Soon, Michigan State Police arrived, and Debbie comforted the dog until help came. Despite being shaken, the shepherd looked clean, healthy, and friendly — likely someone’s lost pet.
Animal rescue workers took the injured pup for care, but without a microchip, finding the owner has proven difficult. Still, there’s hope for a reunion.
“I’m not a hero,” Debbie said. “Just a human being.”
