Southern California Shaken by 5.4 Magnitude Earthquake
Early Monday morning, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Southern California, startling residents and reminding everyone of the region’s seismic risk. Centered near the San Andreas Fault — where two major tectonic plates meet — the quake struck quickly but powerfully.
“It felt awful,” one resident shared online. “It was over fast, but the ground shook hard.”
Though no injuries or major damage have been reported, some schools closed for safety checks, and emergency crews are inspecting bridges and hospitals.
The USGS warns aftershocks are likely over the next few days. While most should be mild, experts say a stronger quake isn’t out of the question.
