The Moore family of Kansas is grieving the devastating loss of 14-year-old Caleb Moore, who died by suicide after falling victim to an online sextortion scam.
It began with someone posing as a teenage girl on TikTok. Within minutes, Caleb was pressured into sending explicit photos through Snapchat. When the impersonator threatened to leak them unless he paid money, Caleb panicked. The entire nightmare unfolded in just 35 minutes.
Shortly after texting his mom, “It’s going to be okay,” Caleb was found by his father in critical condition. Despite efforts to save him, it was too late.
Now, his mother, Morgan Moore, is urging parents to talk openly with their children about online dangers. “These scammers make kids believe their world is over,” she said. “But it’s not—there’s always someone who will help.”
Caleb is remembered as kind, gentle, and full of light—a boy who made everyone around him feel seen and loved. His story is a heartbreaking reminder of how real online threats can be, and how deeply our kids need our protection and support.
